Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison Holiday Show

Bruce and Kelly

The Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison Holiday Show

McGonigel’s Mucky Duck

December 6 & December 17

Two Shows Each Night…7pm and 10pm

Tickets $30.00

Beloved Texas couple Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison will be bringing their holiday show back for the 2008 season. Willis and Robision started the tradition in 2006 with the release of Happy Holidays, an 11-song collection of holiday standards and originals.

Standards include “Santa Baby,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”  Other songs include the tender and emotionally affecting country/folk ballad “A Winter’s Tale,” written by the esteemed singer/poet R.B. Morris. Of course a true country holiday album wouldn’t be right without a touch of humor, as evident on “Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy” and Bruce Robison’s own “Oklahoma Christmas,” about accidentally slipping out the occasional “Oh Lord,” and “Jesus Christ,” while gathered around the family Christmas dinner table.

The husband/wife team will be adding to their holiday repetoire during the show, as well as performing from their own acclaimed catalogues of material.

For artwork (like the photo included in this email) review copies, interviews or further info, please respond to th is email or call Kim Fowler 615.228.7177

Thank you and have a lovely day.

T/RD Turns 1 Year Old!

June marks the 1 year anniversary of Texas / Red Dirt Music Scene. It’s been quite a ride for me. I have learned a lot about blogging and even learned more web design. We reached 43,000 Hits in our first year with WordPress and now we are looking to take it a step further. Sometime within the next month or so we are going to switch over to our own Web Address. i.e. We are dropping the out of our URL. We will still continue to have wordpress host the blog for us due primarily to the fact they are better at catching the spam comments. We will upgrade to a preminum account though so we will have a little more control over the blog.

Now what does all this mean for you, the TRD readers? Well you can expect to see more request for donations since we are upgrading our services that will cost us out of pocket and well, we don’t sell anything…yet…so the blog doesn’t make money. Therefore I hope some of our regular readers will want to donate occasionally to help keep us going.

We are looking into a Color scheme change, though the tan and red scheme has served us well over the first year I feel a more eye pleasing color scheme is past due. We are open to suggestions for a color scheme just leave us a comment on this post.

As CD submissions increase, I am getting way behind on doing reviews and now I have had several bar/dancehalls ask if we could do a review of them. So, again, I call on you my loyal readers. If you are interested in doing reviews for us please drop us a note and let us know, we’ll contact you and try to work something out. Here again, we don’t make money so your only pay for the reviews will be free CDs and concert tickets, when possible.

In conjunction with the Blog Revamp we will also be upgrading our web site to match the newly restyled blog. We are hoping to have the online CD shop reopened soon also. When we switched web site host back a couple months ago we lost our database with all our store files. And rebuilding the database is super time consuming for me at this time, with so much on my plate.

In closing, I want to thank you all for making TRDs first year a success. We have become somewhat known in the music scene and look forward to more recognition in the coming year.

(as of this post at 8:57 am on June 1, 2008 TRD has received 43,540 hits! Thanks!)

Dale Watson Announces April Tour Dates

Announces April Tour Dates
In Support Of His Acclaimed Recording

“Dale Watson writes songs that wouldn’t sound out of place on one of Johnny Cash’s best albums — songs that will endure…addressing matters of life and death, truth and justice, loss and longing in a voice that rings — make that, rumbles — with conviction.” – The Washington Post

Watch Dale Watson’s video for “Hollywood Hillbilly” here

Brooklyn, NY–Austin, Texas troubadour Dale Watson continues to build momentum behind his acclaimed album, From The Cradle To The Grave, on HYENA Records. He’s just been nominated for two CMT Music Awards for the videos “Justice For All” and “Hollywood Hillbilly.” Additionally, at the invitation of longtime fan and friend Johnny Knoxville, he performed live with his band on MTV during a “Jackass 24 Hour Takeover.” And now after spending the first half of 2008 gigging around Texas, Watson gets back on the road with a run of 19 shows, hitting both coasts and the Midwest, throughout the month of April.

The upcoming tour dates are:

April 2 / The Handlebar/ Greenville, SC
April 4 / Berkeley Cafe / Raleigh, NC
April 5 / Puckett’s Farm Equipment / Charlotte, NC
April 7 / IOTA Club & Cafe / Arlington, VA
April 9 / Thunderbird Cafe / Pittsburgh, PA
April 10 / The Beachland Ballroom / Cleveland, OH
April 11 / Fitzgerald’s / Berwyn, IL
April 12 / Club Tavern / Middleton, WI
April 13 / Oneida Casino / Green Bay, WI
April 14 / Oneida Casino / Green Bay, WI
April 15 / Oneida Casino / Green Bay, WI
April 16 / Lee’s Liquor Lounge / Minneapolis, MN
April 17 / Knucklehead’s / Kansas City, MO
April 18 / The Broken Spoke / Austin, TX
April 19 / Railroad Blues / Alpine, TX
April 22 / The Rhythm Room / Phoenix, AZ
April 24 / Safari Sam’s / Los Angeles, CA
April 25 / Fish Lips Bar / Bakersfield, CA
April 26 / Berkley Theatre / Fallon, NV

Released in the Spring of 2007, From The Cradle To The Grave was recorded at Johnny Knoxville’s Tennessee mountain cabin, which previously belonged to Johnny Cash. Upon the album’s release, Watson rejected the country music label and declared his sound, “Ameripolitan,” in protest over what modern country music had become. Critics raved about the album. American Songwriter stated: “On From the Cradle to the Grave, Dale Watson combines Bakersfield filigree and basic country stomp for a record of terse, elegant fatalism.” wrote: “When Dale Watson sings something, it stays sung…it’s kinda difficult to argue with a man who sounds like God.” Despite Watson’s unease with the current trends in country music and the irony in being nominated for two CMT Music Awards, perhaps said it best when they declared: “Thanks to Dale’s enduring and brave 25-year career and to this album, to paraphrase the late, Great Mark Twain, the rumors of country music’s death have been greatly exaggerated.”

For more information on Dale Watson, interview requests, photos and promo requests, please contact Kevin Calabro at HYENA Records: 718-369-6567 or

Blog and Web Site Update.

Hello all, Hope you all had a good Christmas and a happy new year. The new year brought about a few changes for us here at TRDMS. My wife and I bought a house and finally got moved in. Now I can get back to the business of updating my blog and web site more.

OK, some info for those interested. The CD we were looking to have together by Christmas….well….we didn’t make it. We still want to put out a compilation CD though so any bands interested in contributing to this just drop us a line. We also wanted to put out two 2008 Calendars of some of our TRD readers. (male and females) well that didn’t come to fuition either, we only had one reader from Austin send her photo. So we are going to work on this all year and try for 2009 Calendars. You can read more on this on or contest page.

Our Prize closet is filling up and we will be having more contest but i can’t give away prizes if you people don’t enter the contests! So check the contest page often.

We are also looking for writers for concert and CD reviews. If you are interested in doing reviews and having them posted here drop me a line and let me know. Occasionally I can get CDs and tickets comped to you for doing reviews. More info on this will be provided to those who show interest in working for TRDMS.

If you read this blog on a regular basis I am sure you noticed I have had some articles that don’t really relate to the Country music scene. Well those articles have gotten a good response so I will continue to post some interesting articles from time to time.

Our Web Site at is in need of a MAJOR overhaul so I’ll be working on that over the next several weeks also. If you are a computer/web programmer and willing to help let me know! we need some people with skills in Database, MySQL, PHP, HTML, CSS, ASP, AJAX, RUBY and Photoshop. I’ll admit these are not paying positions right now but more of a portfolio builder for you and I’ll try to comp the occasional CD or concert ticket when I can.

The Concert Calendar on both the Blog Page and out searchable database have been updated. The blog page will be updated weekly, we will try to post new dates on Wednesday so you can find shows for that weekend. Our web site list will be updated as new show dates are given to us.

Thanks for your continued support and keep reading Texas/Red Dirt Music Scene!
