Charlie Robison stirs up Bandera Residents

BANDERA, Texas — Hill Country residents want local bar, who host a lot of big name live music acts to quiet down.

The 11th Street Cowboy Bar, located at 303 11th St., has neighbors who are complaining about the noise pollution. The problem is the city has an ordinance that restricts noise levels above 70 decibels (dbs). Clubs & bars like the 11th Street Cowboy Bar have to apply for special permits to allows for dbs to reach 100. Local area residents against the excessively loud music want the ordinance modified or worse yet, they want the special permits done away with.

The owners of the bar said if the music is stopped because of new ordinances, the city’s tourism money could take a hit. “You take this industry out, we don’t have industry here,” said James McGroarty.

“There have been so many complaints,” Bandera City Councilwoman Monica Halsey said.

“The Charlie Robison concert did not have 40 complaints, as others have claimed; on the Police Department list, there were 16 calls out of eight households, and anonymous calls don’t count,” McGroarty said. “We had a permit. [Mayor] Horst Pallaske signed it. Everything was in place to meet the guidelines. The decibels we measured were at 83 in the street. It’s a fact. Don’t believe the rumors…get your facts straight.”

Thursday evening’s City Council meeting was packed as the issue of special event permits was brought up, but the council decided not to take any action at this time.

“We’ve got to realize what makes this town click, and I’m very upset that one business in town is getting blamed for everything,” resident Rolla Stevens said.

Dan Wise, with the Historical Commission, Celebrate Bandera, and many other groups, said “The sound of that music, and the motorcycles, and the trucks…that’s the sound of money. If you stop it, we will start having to pay some real taxes [to support city infrastructure].”

Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison Holiday Show

Bruce and Kelly

The Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison Holiday Show

McGonigel’s Mucky Duck

December 6 & December 17

Two Shows Each Night…7pm and 10pm

Tickets $30.00

Beloved Texas couple Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison will be bringing their holiday show back for the 2008 season. Willis and Robision started the tradition in 2006 with the release of Happy Holidays, an 11-song collection of holiday standards and originals.

Standards include “Santa Baby,” “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”  Other songs include the tender and emotionally affecting country/folk ballad “A Winter’s Tale,” written by the esteemed singer/poet R.B. Morris. Of course a true country holiday album wouldn’t be right without a touch of humor, as evident on “Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy” and Bruce Robison’s own “Oklahoma Christmas,” about accidentally slipping out the occasional “Oh Lord,” and “Jesus Christ,” while gathered around the family Christmas dinner table.

The husband/wife team will be adding to their holiday repetoire during the show, as well as performing from their own acclaimed catalogues of material.

For artwork (like the photo included in this email) review copies, interviews or further info, please respond to th is email or call Kim Fowler 615.228.7177

Thank you and have a lovely day.

The Real Kyle Busch and His Quest to Help Children Across the Country

As the season calms down and the major figures of NASCAR return to their ‘off-season’ activities, which in many cases means charity work. Many of the biggest fans in NASCAR lend time, money and resources to their own foundations or the charities closest to their heart. NASCAR heavyweight, Kyle Busch is no exception.  When he’s not competing with NASCAR’s elite, Kyle Busch is focused on improving the lives of neglected, abandoned, abused or orphaned children across the country. After an emotional visit to a children’s home in 2006, Busch vowed to help provide living and learning environments where less fortunate children can pursue their dreams, and thus came The Kyle Busch Foundation.

The Kyle Busch Foundation concentrates its efforts on assisting organizations in fostering a safe environment for children to live, learn and challenge themselves as well as providing assistance for day-to-day needs. The foundation supports a number of charities including St. Johns Home (Grand Rapids, MI), Carolina’s Children Center (Concord, NC), Girls and Boys Town of Nevada (Las Vegas, NV) and Carrie Steele-Pitts Home (Atlanta, GA) and many more.

This holiday season many NASCAR families can help their favorite drivers and many more by giving to these charities. Find your favorite athlete and their charity below.

Jason Boland Back on the Road!

From “Texas Music News”
Fans of Jason Boland won’t have to wait too much longer to catch their honky-tonk hero in action again. The Texas country circuit mainstay has been sidelined since early July after being diagnosed with a blood-filled polyp on his vocal chord, a setback that unfortunately coincided with the release of his most recent album. On the upside, the medical treatments were a success and Boland’s voice has made a full recovery. The tour will kick off in Oklahoma in late November, with shows at Gruene Hall and Billy Bob’s booked shortly thereafter. Boland may be returning to larger audiences than ever; the title track from Comal County Blue hit No. 1 on the Texas Music Chart during his convalescence, and his new single (fittingly titled “The Party’s Not Over”) features a duet with Boland’s friend and influence Robert Earl Keen.
