My name is Don Haney and I reside in North East Texas. I am 40 years of age and have been a fan of Texas Music for some time. Recently, meaning the last decade, there has been a huge uprising in the Texas / Red Dirt Genre of country music. Some of the forefathers of Texas Music would be people like Bob Wills, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and in more main stream artist such as George Strait and Deanna Carter. These people have lead the way for today stars like Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Cross Canadian Ragweed and many others.
This blog will be to report and tell stories about all Texas (and Oklahoma) artist. As well as other thing related to the Texas/Red Dirt lifestyle, such as Bar-B-Que & Toobing.
Feel free to post any comments you want. I know my writing is not all that great right now but I will improve as I continue with this blog.

UPDATE! (November 29 2008)
Well, I have been slacking off alot lately. I had knee surgery back in October and have been off work for nearly two months. Now that I am ready to go back to work….I have a cold. Anyway enough about my personal problems.
I am ready to get fired up on the blog again. We are looking forward to 2009. We are planning big things this year. More contest and more giveaways! That means more prizes to give away. Our prize closet is flowing over now. But if you are a band or promoter and want to contribute to the prize closet by all means, contact us and let us now. Last year we gave away 5 CD’s, 2 t-shirts, a couple of stickers, tickets to Radio Free Texas’ Rock Float and our big prize package, won by Lesley N. from Paris, Texas, two tickets to the Texas Music Awards and a two night hotel stay in Palestine, Texas at the Best Western Palestine. Cool site, Actually I need your help. I need about 50 pounds of that red dirt! I am the hatter of choice in Austin, Texas and provide hats for many of the artists you refer to in your site.
If you check our my website you will see what the dirt is for.
I do a Wrangler and Hank Hat version of some of the classic styles worn by the old timers…like Hanks Williams.
What I need the dirt for is to distress some of my hats for our East Texas line. Would someone there agree to ship some of that fine dirt to me in Austin? I wish I had time to come out there and collect it myself as it as been at least 30 years since I have visited.

I came across your web site by accident and and I really enjoy it. Very informative and keeps us old cogers up to date. I have passed it along to some of my old military buds. Keep up the good work.
I have a question that you may be able to help me with. I really enjoy “Border Music” and being from San Angelo I heard a song not long ago where a cowboy is in a bar in Acuna and the singer is saying “he is in his Sombrero and she is in her pretty pink panties” It goes on and on about their differences, etc. I have listened to it a couple of times but they never tell me the Artist. Any ideas?

Sorry, I am not sure on this one. I haven’t got to listen to any good radio lately as I am staying where I don’t get any good radio stations. I will still look into it though. If anyone else knows the answer please leave a comment.

I grew up listening to country music in my parents van. We had an 8 track player which was really cool at the time. My favorites were Loretta Lynn, Dolly Pardon and Kenny Rogers.

Thank you for giving us this website. I am a songwriter from London whose life has been transformed by coming into contact with Red Dirt artists since 2007. Along with a friend of mine from San Marcos Texas I am doing a film which features many Red Dirt musicians and attempts to show the spiritual transformation that real music and real people can cause to those who come into contact with them. We are in the process of editing 200 hours of high definition footage down and, hopefully will have the finished thing in a few months.
