The Power Of Football

OK, I just had to share this with you.

Football is a great thing. Thousands upon thousands of people watch football games every week. Some games draw more attention than others. All leading up to that grand finale in late January (or February 3rd this year), the Super Bowl. There are tailgate parties not only at the stadium but many bars around the nation for this game. Private parties abound as people will rent GIANT screen TVs to watch the game on. Church’s let out early so the congregation can get home in time to see the big game. Well this much most of us already knew. But this week at my work I found out just how big the Super Bowl really is. See back in the middle of 2007 my work though it would be better to change our Night Shift work schedule from Monday through Thursday to a Sunday through Wednesday schedule. (Yes we work 4 night a week, 10 hour shifts) well they just posted a bulletin last night that stated, “…to avoid excessive absenteeism we are going to change our schdule for one week,Feb. 3 – Feb. 9. We will work our normal hours but we will work Monday the 4th through Thursday the 7th.” Other than the line “to avoid excessive absenteeism” no other reason was given. Well at least in my part of Texas two plus two equals four. That is Super Bowl weekend. Now you might ask where do you work that would do this, “Joe’s Diner” NO I work at a major Home Improvement Distribution Center. Our night shift at our DC employs around 150 to 200 people with around 600 total employees altogether. And there are at least six distribution centers and over 1200 retail stores. So I would estimate the total company employee amount to be close to, if not more than, 200,000 people. So any sport that can get a large company like that to change it’s work week for one week a year, that is a major sport. So the Power Of Football is on the way to a National Holiday!

Ok and as a side note. I got New England Patriots to win over the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLII.
