Willie Nelson in the News!

Drug Charges

OK the first story here is an old one but some of you may not know about it yet. So I will stat by saying, In September Willie’s tour bus was pulled over outside of Lafayette LA. for a commercial inspection. State troopers found one and a half pounds of marijuana and 91 grams of shrooms. Well Willie and his sister Bobbie as well as two bus drivers were charged with possession. Now the good news on April 26, 2007 they went to court to face these charges here is the post from GACTV’s web site about that.

April 26, 2007 — Willie Nelson and his tour manager were ordered to pay $1,024 each and were sentenced to six months of probation after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana Tuesday, The Advocate reports.

Willie, tour manager David Anderson, Willie’s sister Bobbie, and two tour bus drivers were cited on misdemeanor drug charges in September while traveling on Interstate 10 through St. Martin Parish, La.

State Police investigators said they found marijuana and a small amount of hallucinogenic mushrooms in a search prompted by a “strong odor of marijuana” during a routine inspection of his tour bus.

Sixteenth Judicial District Judge Paul deMahy asked Willie the same questions routine for all guilty pleas, as the singer stood before the judge. Name? “Willie Hugh Nelson.” Age? “I was born in 1933.” Occupation? “I’m an entertainer.” Can you read? “Yes, sir.”

The judge also handed down 90-day suspended jail sentences, which could be imposed if the singer or his manager get in legal trouble again during the six months of unsupervised probation. Willie could have faced felony distribution charges because of the large amount of marijuana involved, but prosecutor Chester Cedars said the evidence indicated the marijuana was for personal use.

As part of a plea agreement, the citation against Bobbie Nelson was dismissed, the AP reports. The citations against the two drivers were also dismissed because Cedars said there was no indication they “had anything to do with the contraband.”

Word spread quickly that Willie was in the small southern Louisiana town, and a crowd of about 25 fans gathered outside after his brief court appearance. When he emerged, Willie shook hands, signed scraps of paper and posed for photographs. “Thank y’all,” he said, waving as he climbed into a waiting car.

Council Subpoenas Mayor Over Questionable Spending

Mayor Kevin Jackson of Rio Rancho, NM is in hot water over questionable purchases made with his city-issued credit card. Councilors voted unanimously Wednesday to subpoena Jackson to a special meeting later this month.

An investigation has determined that Jackson owes the city around $5,300 for for using his city issued credit card to purchase items ranging from fast-food to $1,600 worth of Willie Nelson tickets. If Jackson fails to show at the July 20 meeting, he could face misdemeanor charges.

Jackson was quoted as saying, “I strongly believe that the Willie Nelson show tickets and my refreshments should not be my responsibility since they were requested by another for the overall benefit of the city to host dignitaries and elected officials,”

Nelson cancels Washington County show

Willie Nelson has canceled his July 26 performance at the Washington County Fair, according to fair manager Sandy Lang.

No explanation was given for the cancellation, Lang said.

Nelson apparently has withdrawn from much of his previously announced summer schedule between July 20 and August 31.

Lang is attempting to fill the vacant main stage performance at the County Fair with a group of “equal caliber,” she said. All reserved seats had been sold out for the Nelson show. For information on reserved-seat refunds, call Fair Park at (262) 677-5060.

The annual fair runs July 24 through July 29 at Fair Park, 3000 Highway PV.
