Featured Artist of the Week – Carissa Amberly

With an electric performance energy and a vocal purity unlike any other, Carissa Amberly of Longview Texas is breaking onto the music scene trailing a growing number of fans. Her rich vocals combined with sincere country and gospel music written by some of today’s top songwriters has produced her first solo album, Letters (2006).

This past year, Carissa has been both in the recording studio and on the stage. After winning first place in the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame talent showcase in August 2006, Carissa was immediately given the opportunity to sing in a music show that would later welcome the Gatlin Brothers, Billy Joe Shaver, Jack Greene, and Casey Rivers to the same stage. As a part of her prize package, Carissa was awarded a trip to Branson, MO to guest perform on the shows hosted by Mickey Gilley, Hamner Barber, Jim Owen, Jim Stafford, and Doug Gabriel.

Now that the whirlwind affects of the contest have slowed down, Carissa has been performing in and around East Texas for audiences large and small- including The Great American Trucking Show with Truckers Complete in August 2006, a fundraiser performance with Louie Gohmert in October 2006, and even President George W. Bush and 10,000 others at the Presidential Rally on October 30, 2006 in Sugarland Texas.

Whether she’s singing in front of fans or strangers, Carissa’s energetic performance captures audiences with sincerity in song and style. Word of her outstanding talent is spreading far and fast. Carissa will be making a trip to Nashville, TN to sing on Jeannie Seely’s music show as well as the Ernest Tubb’s Midnight Jamboree.

Carissa’s background in music is one grounded in honest country style and nurtured by gospel truth. She started performing in local opry’s as a young girl, and has since grown into a beautiful young lady with a mature style and a sound uniquely her own.

Her growing popularity among true veterans of country music is taking her into wider horizons in the country music industry, and with an increasing number of fans of Letters (2006) few can argue with her aspirations for the top of the charts.

“Carissa Amberly is one of the most talented “newcomers” I have heard in quite sometime. She is blessed with an original approach to a song.

Her voice grabs attention via purity and realism. All-in-all, Carissa is a true stylist. After I aired her “Some Heroes Don’t come Back”, my listeners responded in a big way. Her new CD consists of a perfect mixture. I receive requests for her “works” on a regular basis.

This beautiful lady is a shining light. I am certain her light will glow brighter with every release. She is a winner!

TRD: Who do you consider your influences?

CA: Martina McBride is one of my big influences. Her voice is so great. I have always looked up to her ever since I was a little girl. I would also have to say my mom Debra Green who was a Country Singer, and my Grandpa Curly Green who was a steel guitar player.

TRD: What was your first Gig?

CA: Hospice Benefit in Gilmer, Texas

TRD: What groups or singers do you listen to now?

CA: Martina McBride, Pauline Reese, Sugarland, and Merle Haggard are just a few favorites of mine. There are plenty of more such as Craig Morgan, Josh Turner, Billy Currington, and Little Big Town.

TRD: What is your favorite venue you have performed at? Why?

CA: I would say Music City Texas Theater in Linden, Texas if you want to see a great show and go hear a good variety of music, Go see Richard Bowden and The Moon and Starz Band. This is definitely the place to go!!! It was a wonderful place to perform and the crowd has great energy!!!

TRD: If you could perform only 1 more show, anywhere in the world, where
would you want to play? Why?

CA: I would love to perform on the USO Tour, because I would be honored to get to sing for all of our Troops!! They do so much for our country and this would be my way of saying thanks for all that you do. I would definitely enjoy every minute of it.

TRD: What is your favorite song you have recorded? Why?

CA: My most favorite song would have to be “Some Heroes Don’t Come Back” because it really touches my heart. I recorded this song for all of our true heroes. Our Firefighters, Truck Drivers, and all of our Troops.

TRD: When you’re not performing what do you like to do with your spare time?

CA: I enjoy going deer huntin’, and spending time in the pool with my family!

TRD: If you could perform with any other artist, who would you like to
share the stage with? Why?

CA: I would have to say Martina McBride. I actually get to go see her in concert on July 15th. I am soooo excited. This will be my first ever concert and I couldn’t pick a better person to go see. She has an amazing voice and I would love to sing with her one day!!
